Will,

I share your political ideology

so I was receptive to your analysis.

Couldn't find any controversial assertions being made.

You are simply illustrating for us

the moral and political complexities we are dealing with.

You are assisting us to weigh these vital matters carefully.

Thank you!

Oh man... if government folks are using any generative AI for fact-based info or decisions, shame on them. Generative AI is just super-auto-complete and knows absolutely nothing about anything. It has some uses, but those use cases are far smaller than all the breathless article out there would have you believe.

I really like the description of Gen AI as "super-auto-complete," John. That's exactly how we need to be thinking about these tools.

Yeah, I've never liked the term "Artificial Intelligence" because it suggests, well... "intelligence," and that's 100% wrong. There's no intelligence at all. The most sophisticated tech is "machine learning" and that's really just automated algorithm collection and correction. AI is really just cross-connecting lots of ML models based on big data sets.

One could argue even we human beings are just a collection of algorithms, I suppose, but c'mon... this software out there today, especially the GenAI stuff, is nowhere near the human experience. GenAI has some really neat -- and useful, under the right circumstances -- party tricks. But they are merely party tricks!

Thank you, John, for your glorious clarity.

AI has no intelligence.

It cannot write.

It cannot create.

But yes it is great at doing party tricks.

Some are useful!

But some backfire badly.

My conclusion: never allow AI in the driver's seat.
